Poetic Descent - Close Encounter (Reimagined)

from Burn the Ships by For The Rock

about

Poetic Descent is an American Alternative Metal band from Dayton, Ohio featuring Jared Lacey (vocals) and Adam Thompson (drums) who are former members of Mayfly (Voluminous Records). They draw influence from bands such as Disciple, Project 86, As I Lay Dying, Underoath, and Dead Poetic.

Poetic Descent's reimagined version of Close Encounter, released in May of 2021, is taken to new heights with the production skills of Jake Bryant (formerly of Dangerkids and Cinema Century) who has mixed and mastered four of the the band's singles in total. The instrumental composition of this song has matured in the creation of an interstellar rock sonic landscape, but the vocal melody and lyrics remain mostly true to the original version with the chorus still proclaiming the phrase "The truth is out there" which was made famous by the hit sci-fi television series, The X-Files.

lyrics

There’s so much more
There’s so much more than meets the eye
A universe
A vast expanse of uncharted mystery

I want new eyes to see
Yes, I want to believe
I want new eyes to see
Yes, I want to believe
The truth is out there

Where did it all begin?
Where does it end?
So many questions I have
So many things I just don’t know
I need to find the answers
I need to go

I want new eyes to see
Yes, I want to believe
I want new eyes to see
Yes, I want to believe

Are we really alone?
Are we really alone?
Or is there life, is there life extraterrestrial?
Are we really alone?
Are we really alone?
Is there a God?
Does he speak?
Are we listening?
Is anybody listening?

I want new eyes to see
Yes, I want to believe
(The truth is all we need)
I want new eyes to see
(The truth is what we need)
Yes, I want to believe
(The truth is all we need)
The truth is out there

The truth is out there

The truth
