Rusty Shipp - Bottom of the Barrel

from Burn the Ships by For The Rock

/

about

Nashville’s Rusty Shipp are taking up the torch passed down from rock legends of the past five decades; to hold it up in an age when mainstream music has seemed to give up on rock bands. Their music is a fusion of primarily grunge and surf rock styles that follows the band's nautical theme and concept albums. Tirelessly thinking and working like it’s a divine mission, the band’s goal is to make people feel inspired and empowered by creating the catchiest, most creative rock music on Planet Earth. The result of this zeal is their new concept album, ‘Liquid Exorcist,’ which keeps with the group’s nautical theme and was “meticulously crafted to get stuck in a human being’s brain,” says frontman, Russ T. Shipp. “The album sounds like Nirvana trying to play a Beach Boys song right after hearing Dark Side Of The Moon.”

lyrics

Spinning out of control beneath the world
Where black and blue are up and down
No air left in my lungs
By now I’ve surely drowned

Down at the bottom of the barrel
Still your love is bottomless
The weight of the world is crushing me to a pulp
But it brings my soul to the surface
If I make my bed in Mariana Trench
I’m welcomed to a city that’s lit -- bioluminescence

The sea is filled with miles of flashing lights
Like fireflies on moonless nights
My soul shines with the rest of them
Flesh and spirit both ignite
